Barcelona's 6-0 thrashing of Malaga came at a cost with midfielders Andres Iniesta and Yaya Toure getting injured and sidelined for two weeks. Both players were due to be on international duty next week, Toure with Ivory Coast and Iniesta with European champions Spain. Iniesta limped out of the match with a thigh complaint and will now miss Spain's 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ qualifiers with Turkey on 28 March and 1 April.
Toure sustained an injury to his right thigh and coach Pep Guardiola confirmed the pair would be out for around a fortnight. "Andres and Yaya picked up injuries and will be out for about 15 days," Guardiola said.
Barcelona also reported that a third midfielder, Xavi, was substituted with an Achilles tendon problem, but that he would be joining up with the Spain squad as planned. Barcelona face Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League on 8 April and will be keen to get both first-teamers back for the crunch match at Camp Nou.
