Cornejo dies from cancer

Former Chilean international footballer Fernando Cornejo, who played in the 1998 FIFA World Cup™, died from stomach cancer on Saturday at the age of 39.

Cornejo was admitted to Catholic University Hospital in Santiago on December 17 and had been undergoing chemotheraphy when doctors judged that the illness was terminal.

He was capped 36 times by his country, scoring two goals, and featured in the 1998 World Cup matches against Italy and Cameroon.
