Lyon's want-away Brazil striker Fred is free to leave the club and return home, the French champions claimed on Tuesday. The forward, who joined Lyon in 2005, is out of contract in June but has made it clear he wants to quit the Stade Gerland now.
He has had several injuries during the past year and is frustrated at the lack of first team action. "The club's been very understanding with him and has told him that if he wants to return there... it's ready to let him go," sporting director Marino Faccioli told Lyon's official website.
Faccioli added however that despite Fred's wish to return to Brazil he was still at the club. "Contrary to what he's told us, things are dragging along. Today, Tuesday, he's still beating about the bush and he's still here."
Lyon coach Claude Puel left Fred out of the side which defeated Grenoble 2-0 at the weekend. "He wasn't in the right frame of mind to play," explained Puel.
Fred, who joined Lyon from Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte, is rumoured to be interested in playing for either Fluminense or Palmeiras.
