Ten-man Dallas stole a march on their Major League Soccer Western Conference rivals Real Salt Lake on Friday night as they beat the Utah team 2-1 at the Toyota Stadium.

Blas Perez picked up a second yellow card in the closing stages of a goalless first half to become the ninth Dallas man to see red this season, but home nerves were soon eased when JeVaughn Watson nudged them in front five minutes after the interval. Fabian Castillo doubled Dallas' lead with 16 minutes remaining, before Olmes Garcia pulled one back for Real Salt Lake in the final minutes.

Dallas' victory ended a three-match winning streak for Real Salt Lake and sees them move ahead of their opponents on matches won into second place in the conference, just behind Seattle Sounders, with all three teams locked on 42 points at the top of the table.
