DC United closed the gap to the top of the MLS Eastern Conference to a single point with a 3-1 victory over Chivas USA on Sunday.

Eddie Johnson's penalty broke the deadlock after 25 minutes, with second-half-goals from Perry Kitchen (59) and Luis Silva (70) setting the hosts on their way to a fourth successive victory.

Erick Torres' spot-kick six minutes from time proved too little too late for Chivas, who saw their own four-match winning run ended.

Victory sees DC United keep up the pressure on Eastern Conference leaders Sporting Kansas City, while Chivas remain second from bottom in the Western standings.
