Luis Silva netted a hat-trick as DC United toppled the Montreal Impact 4-2 to move top of Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference on Wednesday.

All the goals came in a frenetic first half at Stade Saputo, Silva coolly slotting home the opener in the sixth minute only for Jack McInerney's superb finish from a tight angle and a deflected Andres Romero effort to turn the game on its head before the 22-minute mark.

Nick DeLeon swiftly got the visitors back on level terms with his first goal of the season, however, before two further goals before the interval from Silva - the first a long-range blast and the second a penalty deep into stoppage time - swung the game decisively in United's favour.

The result lifted the victors two points clear of New England Revolution atop the East, and left Montreal four points adrift of the Chicago Fire at the foot of the table.

Also on Wednesday, the Portland Timbers notched twice in the final 12 minutes to salvage a 2-2 draw against nine-man FC Dallas.

The visitors had looked to be cruising when Fabian Castillo and Blas Perez put them 2-0 up at Providence Park before half-time.

But Will Johnson halved the deficit with a 79th-minute penalty and then, after late red cards for Dallas duo Moises Hernandez and Perez, Pa-Modou Kah grabbed a dramatic equaliser in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
