Fanendo Adi scored twice in the second half as the Portland Timbers beat Chivas USA 2-0 in MLS.

Adi twice capitalised on shaky defending, netting his first in the 65th minute when he was allowed to run onto a first-time low cross from the left delivered by Jorge Villafana and shot beyond Dan Kennedy.

Kennedy was left hopelessly exposed by his defence six minutes later when a bank of five players stood still as substitute Diego Valeri threaded a pass through to Adi, who went wide of goalkeeper Kennedy before threading a finish through a posse of rapidly retreating Chivas players.

Home side Chivas were reduced to ten men in the 84th minute when defender Bobby Burling was shown a straight red card for a careless challenge on Adi.

Chivas remain bottom of the Western Conference table, with Portland climbing to sixth place.
