Clint Dempsey struck twice as the Seattle Sounders inflicted a first defeat on FC Dallas in the Western Conference of the MLS. United States international Dempsey struck the winner five minutes from the end.
The Sounders had to battle back from 2-1 down as Dempsey's 22nd-minute free-kick was sandwiched by David Texeira's opener and a Garbini Michel penalty. Stephen Keel's own goal on 75 minutes levelled matters before Dempsey, who hails from Texas, grabbed his late winner.
Colorado Rapids and Real Salt Lake joined the Sounders three points behind conference leaders Dallas. Edson Buddle scored the only goal as the Rapids won 1-0 at Toronto FC while Real Salt Lake twice lost leads to draw 2-2 at Philadelphia Union. Luke Mulholland and Kyle Beckerman saw their goals cancelled out by Andrew Wenger and Maurice Edu.
The New York Red Bulls remain winless after six games as they lost 1-0 at DC United. Davy Arnaud grabbed the winner after four minutes. Los Angeles Galaxy only needed a Robbie Keane strike to see off Vancounver Whitecaps 1-0 while New England Revolution saw off Houston Dynamo 2-0. Kevin Alston and Jerry Bengtson scored the goals after half-time.
Montreal Impact drew 1-1 at home to Chicago Fire with Jack McInerney and Quincy Amarikwa trading goals. It was also 1-1 between Portland Timbers and Chivas USA as Erick Torres cancelled out Will Johnson's seventh-minute opener.
