Chicago Fire forward Mike Magee, who scored 21 goals this season, has been voted the 2013 MLS most valuable player, the league announced on Thursday.
The 29-year-old beat out the other two finalists, Los Angeles Galaxy forward Robbie Keane and Montreal Impact forward Marco Di Vaio, for the award.
Magee came to Chicago in a trade on 25 May from the Galaxy, recording 15 goals and four assists in 22 games with Los Angeles. His half a dozen goals with the Galaxy also stretched his season total to 21 goals, one fewer than league leader Camilo Sanvezzo.
The eleven-year MLS veteran becomes the first Chicago Fire player to win the award in the club's 15-year history.
Magee was honoured as Chicago's 2013 MVP and Golden Boot winner, and had three game-winning goals and two game-winning assists.
The announcement comes two days before Sporting Kansas City and Real Salt Lake face off in the league championship contest.
Sporting Kansas City is seeking its second championship in club history and first since 2000, while Real Salt Lake will be shooting for its first title since 2009.
