Fenerbahce's Turkish Super Lig title hopes suffered a setback on Thursday night after a 1-0 loss at Besiktas.
Hugo Almeida netted the game's only goal on the stroke of half-time to keep Fener three points behind leaders Galatasaray with two rounds of games remaining in the round-robin championship group. Despite picking up their first win after four losses, Besiktas stayed bottom of the four-team pool.
Elsewhere, Bursaspor boosted their chances of a UEFA Europa League play-off place with a 3-2 victory over Eskisehirspor.
Two goals in three minutes just before half-time from Sebastian Pinto and Pablo Batalla put the hosts in the driving seat and, although Batuhan Karadeniz and Erkan Zengin got the visitors back on level terms, Batalla's second of the match sealed the win for Bursaspor.
The result moved Bursaspor a point ahead of their opponents and a point behind Istanbul Buyuksehir BSK, with two rounds of matches left in the Europa League group.
