Real Betis coach Pepe Mel has extended his deal with Los Verdiblancos until 2017, the club confirmed on Monday.
"On behalf of the board, I have the enormous satisfaction to announce the renewal of Pepe Mel's contract until 2017," Betis president Miguel Guillen told a press conference.
Mel guided the Seville club to their highest league finish for eight years this season as they finished seventh to qualify for next season's UEFA Europa League.
And the 50-year-old hailed the club's loyalty to him, particularly during a tricky spell last season when a ten-game winless streak saw them drop close to the relegation zone.
"I want to thank the club for something that is not common; they have believed in a coach not only when things are going well but also when things didn't look so good," he said. "This has been fundamental when it came to making my decision. I am at the club that I love, where I feel valued and loved by the fans."
