Sergei Tkachev denied Zenit St Petersburg the chance to put one hand on the Russian Premier League trophy by rescuing a 1-1 draw for Lokomotiv Moscow in a top-of-the-table clash. Had Andre Villas-Boas' Zenit claimed victory in the capital they would have pulled four points clear in first place with only two games remaining.

Jose Salomon Rondon put the Sky Blues on the right track with a goal on 35 minutes but Tkachev earned Lokomotiv an invaluable point with a 76th-minute equaliser. With one point separating the rivals, Lokomotiv's final fixtures see them visit Rostov and CSKA Moscow while Zenit host Dinamo Moscow before travelling to Kuban Krasnodar on the last day.

Anzhi Makhachkala could yet survive in the top flight after beating Terek Grozny 3-0. Cut adrift at the bottom for much of the season, former big-spenders Anzhi have rallied in recent weeks and sit six points from the nearest relegation play-off place.

Krylya Sovetov are the club within the Dagestan outfit's reach. They have an inferior goal difference and, more crucially, visit Anzhi on the last day. Vladimir Bystrov opened the scoring on six minutes before an own-goal from Andrei Semenov and Diniyar Bilyaletdinov's 66th-minute contribution settled the contest.

Elsewhere, Rubin Kazan pulled six points clear of the bottom four as Cesar Navas scored the only goal of a 1-0 home victory over lowly Ural.
