Zenit stay top in Russia

Zenit St. Petersburg remained one point clear of chasing Lokomotiv Moscow at the top of the Russian Premier League standings thanks to their 2-1 win over Anzhi Makhachkala on Saturday.

Jose Salomon Rondon opened the scoring for Zenit in the ninth minute before Fedor Smolov (29) levelled, but Miguel Danny's goal in the 62nd minute wrapped up the win.

Lokomotiv kept the heat on the leaders thanks to their 2-1 win over Terek Grozny. Terek took the lead through Ailton (30), but two second-half efforts from Roman Pavlyuchenko (71, 79) claimed the points for the home side.

In the other game, Tomsk beat Krylya Sovetov 2-0 thanks to goals from Renat Sabitov (28) and substitute Jan Holenda (30).
