Zenit St. Petersburg extended their winless streak in the Russian Premier League to four matches as the leaders followed on their midweek UEFA Champions League draw by being held 1-1 at Terek Grozny on Sunday.
Zenit, who have two defeats and two draws in their last four domestic ties, have 37 points from 18 matches to stay one point ahead of second-placed Lokomotiv Moscow, who play Kuban Krasnodar on Monday.
After a goalless first half at Grozny Ahmad arena forward Igor Lebedenko lifted Terek in the 51st minute with a low 22-metre shot with a help of a slight ricochet.
But Belgium midfielder Axel Witsel saved the day for the guests sending the ball into the top left-handed corner from the edge of Terek box with 12 minutes to go.
Spartak Moscow, meanwhile, got off to a flying start at home against Volga taking the lead in the third minute when Spanish midfielder Jurado beat goalkeeper Sergei Pareiko with a low shot from the edge of the box.
In the 33rd minute Jurado again found the net with his sixth goal of the season from 12 metres, while Paraguayan forward Lucas Barrios made it 3-0 for Spartak just before the break with a seven-metre header from Dmitry Kombarov's left-handed cross.
Armenian international midfielder Ozbiliz netted Spartak's fourth with a close-range shot in the 50th minute, while the hosts 'keeper Artem Rebrov parried Volga striker Dmitry Bulykin's spotkick on the 63rd minute.
Rebrov failed to keep his net clean as Volga's Croatian midfielder Matija Dvornekovic grabbed a consolation goal in the 74th minute.
Ozbiliz made it 5-1 for Spartak with his second of the match in the 77th minute, while Volga defender Denis Kolodin rounded off the scoring with an own goal with six minutes to go.
Earlier, Samara edged Krasnodar 1-0 courtesy of Stanislav Dragun's 69th-minute strike.
