CSKA Moscow moved to within touching distance of the Russian Premier League title after they thumped Lokomotiv Moscow 4-1 while closest rivals Zenit St Petersburg could only draw 1-1 at lowly Rostov.
The set of results means CSKA, who were inspired by a Vagner Love double at the Luzhniki Stadium today, are five points clear with two games remaining. The capital club appeared to have the tougher fixture today but they were 3-0 up by half-time as Love's double came either side of an Ahmed Musa goal.
Dmitri Tarasov pulled one back for the hosts, safe in mid-table, but substitute Seydou Doumbia capped a near-decisive day on 74 minutes. Zenit had taken an early lead themselves at Rostov when Axel Witsel netted on six minutes but a Vitaliy Dyakov penalty ten minutes from full-time all but ended their bid for a hat-trick of titles.
Timofey Kalachev saw red late in injury-time for Rostov, who edged out of the relegation play-off places. Zenit's crumb of comfort was that their UEFA Champions League place was assured following a 1-0 defeat for Anzhi Makhachkala at Terek Grozny. Facundo Piriz scored the winning goal on 27 minutes.
