Russian champions Zenit St Petersburg today were punished by the Russian Premier League disciplinary panel for violation of the league's regulations.
Zenit had last Saturday's 1-1 draw with CSKA Moscow changed to a 3-0 defeat and were also fined 200,000 Rubles (around $7,000) for failing to field a young (1990-born) home-grown footballer.
"We studied all the facts and evidence of the case," said the disciplinary panel chief Vladimir Katkov. "It was absolutely clear that Zenit violated the league's regulations and we had no other choice but to penalise the club."
The punishment means that Zenit slip from second in the table a point behind leaders Volga Nizhny Novgorod to fifth, two points adrift of the tabletoppers.
