Russian Premier League leaders Zenit Saint Petersburg dropped two points on Sunday when they were held to a 3-3 draw away at Makhachkala.
The result left Zenit on top of the table with 57 points from 23 matches, six points ahead of defending champions Rubin Kazan, who failed to take advantage of Zenit's result as they too were held, 0-0 by third-placed CSKA Moscow.
Zenit were trailing 1-0 just three minutes into the match after the hosts Czech striker Jan Golenda lobbed the ball into the net over Zenit goalie Yury Zhevnov from David Tsoraev's pass. Zenit pulled level just five minutes later through Portuguese midfielder Danny, who struck the ball past Makhachkala goalkeeper Ilya Abaev after a one-two with Alexander Bukharov.
St Petersburg midfielder Konstantin Zyryanov put his side into the lead firing home a rebound after Abaev failed to catch Alexander Lukovic's left-handed cross with five minutes to go before the break. In the 63rd minute Danny made it 3-1 for Zenit firing the ball into the net from just inside the box after a piece of good individual work.
But the St Petersburg side failed to hold their lead as the hosts scored twice in 10 minutes through midfielders Nikolai Zhosan and Mikhail Bakaev. Russia's nine-time champions Spartak Moscow also failed to gain on the leading trio as they were held to a goalless draw by Novosibirsk, who look certain to be relegated.
