Porto bask in Benfica defeat

Porto moved ten points clear at the top of the Portuguese Liga with an emphatic 5-0 thrashing of second-placed Benfica. The title race seems all but decided already after Porto put their closest rivals to the sword in a relentless attacking display.

Silvestre Varela opened the scoring in the 12th minute and a quickfire double from Falcao in the 25th and 28th minutes made it 3-0 by half-time. Benfica's problems grew when Luisao saw red in the 66th minute, and Hulk capped the win with two goals in the last 10 minutes, the first a penalty.

Braga rallied from three goals down but left it too late as they lost 3-2 at home to Beira Mar. The visitors took a 24th minute lead through Leandro Tatu before Carlos Ronny scored in the 52nd and 68th minutes.

Albert Ze Meyong got one back from the penalty spot in the 75th minute and Rodrigo Lima's 89th minute strike gave the visitors something to worry about, but Braga ran out of time.

Naval were denied what would have been a second win of the season as Cadu Silva struck for Olhanense in the 52nd minute to cancel out Edvaldo Bolivia's seventh minute opener.

Two goals in three minutes ensured the points were shared between Maritimo and Uniao Leiria. Silva Carlao put the visitors in front in the 49th minute, but Kleber levelled for Maritimo moments later.
