Ajax off to winning start

Current Dutch champions Ajax kicked off the new Eredivisie season in style as they beat Roda JC 3-0 in the Dutch capital.

Although the season has just started back, the performance from Ajax was as strong a signal as Frank de Boer's men could have sent out that they will not be relinquishing their title easily.

It took just eight minutes of the fresh campaign for them to take the lead, with Netherlands defender Ricardo Van Rhijn doing the deed.

Siem De Jong, who remains with the 32-time champions despite continuing to court overseas interest, added a second on the half-hour

And, although the pace slowed a little after that, a third goal arrived seven minutes from time when Viktor Fischer opened his account for the 2013/14 season.
