Excelsior have completed the signing of young Dutch forward Mitchell Te Vrede from Eredivisie rivals AZ Alkmaar.
Te Vrede's new side may be plying their trade in the Eerste Divisie next season if they fail to overcome Helmond Sport in a two-legged relegation/promotion play-off in the next few days, but the 19-year-old is nevertheless looking forward to experiencing more first-team action.
"Excelsior means to me a beautiful and important step in my career," he said. "I found it beautiful that Excelsior showed interest in me. From the conversations we have held, it is important for my career that I am going to make progress.
"AZ would like to keep me, but I'm ready for the next step. At Excelsior, I expect to make that step. Of course I hope that Excelsior get through the Eredivisie play-offs - but also in the second division, I can improve."
