Kashiwa Reysol failed to regain the J.League lead as they crashed to a humiliating 6-1 defeat to Jubilo Iwata today. Kashiwa tied at 1-1 with a goal by Brazilian midfielder Leandro Domingues in the 38th minute, but Iwata dominated the rest of the game and five different players were on target in the end.
New Brazilian midfielder Rodrigo Souto scored his first two goals in Japan for Iwata. Kashiwa remain on 41 points, one point behind defending champions Nagoya Grampus, who defeated Sanfrecce Hiroshima 3-0 yesterday to take the lead.
They are followed by Gamba Osaka and Yokohama Marinos on 40 points, and Hiroshima with 32. Gamba Osaka and Yokohama both had a chance to take the lead in the standings, but Gamba drew with Cerezo Osaka 1-1 in a derby match, while Yokohama bowed to Vissel Kobe 2-0 on Saturday.
In other games today, former Asian club champions Urawa Red Diamonds surrendered two penalty goals but managed to keep the lead with a 3-2 victory over Albirex Niigata. Bottom-placed Avispa Fukuoka posted only their third win of the season with forward Hisashi Jogo scoring twice for a come-from-behind victory over Kawasaki Frontale 2-1.
