Australian international defender Jade North is to move from Wellington Phoenix to FC Tokyo, officials at his new club said today.

The 29-year-old centre-back, who played in the AFC Asian Cup in January, played for Incheon United of Korea Republic and then Tromso IL of Norway before joining Wellington in July last year on a one-year deal. He has been capped 34 times by Australia since 2002.

"It's been a dream for me to play in Japan and I'm glad that I will have a new challenge," said North in a statement written in Japan.

"As a football player, I want to use my experiences and I will do my best to help FC Tokyo win and return to the first division."

FC Tokyo finished in 16th place in the 18-team top league last season and were relegated to the second division.
