Milan desire pleases Seedorf

Head coach Clarence Seedorf hopes AC Milan can finally start climbing the Serie A table after the troubled club secured an overdue win on Wednesday night.

Goals from Philippe Mexes and Mario Balotelli saw I Rossoneri win 2-0 at Fiorentina but, thanks to the four-game winless streak that came before, Seedorf's men remain stranded in 12th place. However, the current dynamic of the league means that positive results against Chievo and Genoa could well see Milan return to the race for a UEFA Europa League spot before time runs out.

Speaking to acmilan.com, Seedorf said: "We all showed the desire necessary to help the other guys on the team and that was the best thing we showed today. I'm very happy for the group of players for what they did against Lazio (a 1-1 draw) and Fiorentina, two teams that are tough to face.

We wanted to get back winning ways and now we can think about the good things we've done here and move forward.

"Let's hope that this result will be the start of some continuity in terms of results. Both teams had chances this evening but we deserved the win for the substance we showed."

Forward Kaka is also feeling optimistic and praised his team-mates for sticking together amid hostile conditions at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. "We had a tough game in Rome and now we got this win here this evening," said the Brazilian.

"The coach asked us to stick together on the pitch and we created this wall in front of our defence so as not to concede a goal. We wanted to get back winning ways and now we can think about the good things we've done here and move forward to think about the points we can pick up from here on out."
