Argentinian international Gonzalo Higuain has joined Napoli from Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee, the Spanish club has confirmed.
"Real Madrid can confirm that Gonzalo Higuain has been transferred to Napoli," said a statement on the club's website. "The club would like to show its thanks for his dedication and professionalism throughout his years at the club and wish him all the best in his new challenge."
The move ends weeks of speculation after Higuain publicly declared his desire to leave Madrid at the end of last season.
The 25-year-old, who scored 121 goals in six-and-a-half seasons at the Bernabeu, had been strongly linked with moves to both Juventus and Arsenal. Napoli, though, were well-positioned to match the Spanish giants demands having just sold their own star striker Edinson Cavani to Paris Saint-Germain for €64m last week.
Higuain will join former Real teammates Raul Albiol and Jose Maria Callejon in southern Italy after they too made the move from Madrid to Naples earlier this month.
