Stocker makes Hertha switch

Hertha Berlin have won the race to sign coveted Switzerland midfielder Valentin Stocker from Basel, taking him on a four-year contract from next season. A fee of around €5m is reported to have been agreed between the two clubs for the Switzerland international, who made 175 appearances in the Swiss top flight for Basel, scoring 50 goals.

"Valentin Stocker is an exceptional player who fits perfectly the profile of player we were looking for," said Hertha's general manager Michael Preetz. "He is going to give our attacking play a lot of variety and an additional goalscoring threat next season."

Stuttgart were also reportedly interested in the 25-year-old, who admitted it did not take much to convince him to move to the German capital. "I'm really looking forward to my move to the Bundesliga," he said on his new club's official website. "It was my wish right from the start to join Hertha Berlin. Manager Preetz and coach (Jos) Luhukay really worked long and hard to try to get me."
