Koen Casteels, Belgium's third-choice goalkeeper, will miss the FIFA World Cup™ after breaking his shinbone, his German team Hoffenheim confirmed on Monday. The club revealed on Twitter that Casteels, 21, will undergo surgery in Berlin and is expected to be out of action for several months.

Casteels was stretched off in the 73rd minute of Sunday's German Bundesliga clash with Hertha Berlin, after colliding with Colombian Adrian Ramos.

"The whole game is overshadowed by this injury," said Hoffenheim coach Markus Gisdol at the post-match press conference. "He's been given some painkillers and has already been taken to hospital. After that injury, you could see that the whole team was in shock."

So too was Ramos, whose coach Jos Luhukay said was "distraught" by the "absolutely unfortunate" incident.

After striker Christian Benteke injured his Achilles tendon, Casteels is the second Belgian ruled out of the finals in Brazil in the past week. Belgium will face Korea Republic, Algeria and Russia in the World Cup group stages.
