New Zealand international Marco Rojas faces a race to be fit for the start of the new Bundesliga season next month at Stuttgart after breaking a bone in his foot.

The 21-year-old New Zealander, who has been dubbed the "Kiwi Messi" and was voted the Australian A-League's player of the year last season, suffered the injury after scoring on his Stuttgart debut last week, and is expected to be out for four to six weeks.

Last season's DFB-Pokal finalists Stuttgart open their Bundesliga season at Mainz on 11 August.

Rojas left Melbourne Victory on a free transfer in April and has signed a contract with Stuttgart until 2017, having scored 15 goals in the A-League last season.
