Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler has signed a new contract with the Bundesliga club until 2018. The 19-year-old has committed himself to the Royal Blues, with whom he started his career at the age of seven, going on to become the youngest player ever to reach 100 appearances for them in March at the age of 19 years and 170 days.

He made his debut for the club in January 2011 and has quickly become a fans' favourite in Gelsenkirchen.

The Germany international was also attracting attention from a host of clubs, with local rivals Borussia Dortmund rumoured to be interested this week.

However, via an image on their club website, Schalke have today confirmed that he will be playing for them until 2018.

The midfielder has made four appearances for Germany, since his debut in May 2012.
