Hertha Berlin coach Otto Rehhagel insists his side still have a "small chance" of avoiding relegation despite last night's 2-1 play-off defeat at home to Fortuna Dusseldorf.
The 73-year-old's three-month tenure looks destined to end in failure but Rehhagel is confident they can overturn the deficit in the return leg in Dusseldorf on Tuesday. "Of course the lads are very, very disappointed, but we still have a small chance," he said. "There is not much time, but we will travel to Dusseldorf with fresh belief."
Hertha led 1-0 but Fortuna hit back to edge closer to ending their 15-year absence from the Bundesliga. Coach Norbert Meier was not taking anything for granted though. "Of course the fans can celebrate, but we have got to concentrate next Tuesday," he said.
"I am pleased that the stadium is going to be sold out because it is going to be exciting for the fans. This was one game and we still have another. We have reached our intermediate goal."
