Schalke have given Peru forward Jefferson Farfan a four-year contract extension, the Royal Blues' director of sport Horst Heldt confirmed on Saturday.
The club announced that Farfan will prolong his stay in Gelsenkirchen until 2016 after their 4-0 home win over relegation-threatened Hertha Berlin. Victory confirms their third-placed finish in the Bundesliga and an automatic UEFA Champions League berth for next season.
Having injured his knee last November, Farfan returned in February and has made 22 league appearances this season, netting four goals, and played nine UEFA Europa League games as Schalke reached the last eight. The 27-year-old has been at Schalke since 2008 when he joined from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.
