Spanish striker Raul will not be extending his contract with Schalke and will leave at the end of the season, the Bundesliga club have announced.
A statement on the Gelsenkirchen club's website confirmed that the 34-year-old, who joined from Real Madrid two years ago, has informed them of his decision not to stay.
The forward will explain his reasons at a press conference in Gelsenkirchen this afternoon. Raul quickly became a fans' favourite after scoring 13 goals in his debut season, including two hat-tricks.
He has added a further 14 goals this season to help take the Royal Blues to the brink of clinching a place in the UEFA Champions League next season, but after months of speculation regarding his future, the three-time Champions League winner has now made up his mind to leave the Bundesliga club.
