Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery looks set to be out until at least mid-February after suffering a relapse as his knee injury takes longer to heal than first expected, it was revealed today.
The 27-year-old twisted his knee earlier this month against Wolfsburg on 15 January and had been expected to only miss a week of training. But Ribery has complained of pain in his left knee and broke off rehabilitation training to receive treatment.
Bayern's team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller has ordered five days of complete rest before Ribery can train again. German daily Bild report Ribery is expected to be out for three weeks and his next game will be against Mainz on 19 February.
The latest set-back means Ribery is set to miss France's friendly with Brazil on 9 February in Paris. This is Ribery's second long lay-off with injury this season after he damaged ankle ligaments against Hoffenheim last September which kept him out for two months.
Bayern are at Werder Bremen on Saturday in the Bundesliga.
