Ex-England boss Steve McClaren has begun the hunt to replace Edin Dzeko at Bundesliga side Wolfsburg by signing Congo striker Dieumerci Mbokani on loan from Monaco, it was reported today.
McClaren sold hot-shot Dzeko to Premier League side Manchester City earlier this month for €37m and Mbokani will play for the Bundesliga side until the end of the season, reported German magazine Kicker. The 25-year-old Mbokani has played 14 times for the Congo DR and scored eight times.
Srdjan Lakic, having scored 11 goals in 17 games for Kaiserslaten, has agreed a four-year contract with the Wolves, whom he will join on a free transfer after his contract expires in June. "I am really glad that the transfer has worked out," said the 27-year-old. "It is a great challenge for me. Wolfsburg is a big club with a lot of ambitions which I hope to be able to play an important role in achieving.
"That is why I chose Wolfsburg and I am looking forward to the new season starting. Until then, I will concentrate fully on Kaiserslautern and hope to end the season successfully."
He arrived in Germany in 2008 from Hajduk Split and, with his goals, he helped Kaiserslautern earn promotion to the top flight last season.
"He is a classical centre forward," commented Wolfsburg's managing director Dieter Hoeness. "He likes to get in there where it hurts, he creates space and he works for the team. He is ambitious, hungry and strong minded and he therefore is just what we were looking for."
Wolves have also confirmed Italy defender Andrea Barzagli has joined Juventus in a €1m deal on a two-year contract.
