Cologne's hopes of making a successful start to 2011 have been dealt a blow by an outbreak of the swine flu virus at the club.
According to the local Express newspaper, four players have already been ruled out of this weekend's trip to Kaiserslautern - a game which could say a lot about where both sides' seasons are going.
Assistant coach Thomas Hassler has also been put under quarantine to prevent the virus from spreading to the rest of the team.
"It is a form of the swine flu virus, but we should not start panicking," said coach Frank Schafer, who now has to find replacements for the affected players - Youssef Mohamad, Kevin McKenna, Miso Brecko and Konstantinos Giannoulis.
Cologne ended 2010 third from the bottom of the Bundesliga with 12 points while opponents Kaiserslautern know they are not yet safe from relegation with 21 points in 12th place.
