German international Michael Ballack played his first match in four months on Thursday, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 2-1 friendly win over second division side Oberhausen.

The 34-year-old has been out of action since suffering a leg fracture on his Bayer Leverkusen debut on 11 September having missed the FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa because of an ankle injury while at Chelsea.

Ballack will now hope to be fit when Leverkusen, who are second in the Bundesliga, resume their league campaign after the winter break on 14 January against leaders Borussia Dortmund.
