Cologne president Wolfgang Overath has given coach Zvonimir Soldo a vote of confidence after Saturday's 4-0 defeat at home to Hoffenheim.
Cologne slipped to 15th in the Bundesliga but, according to Overath, Soldo's future is not in any doubt. "The coach has our faith and I say that very, very clearly," said Overath, who did imply however that he should be getting more out of his team.
According to the former FIFA World Cup™ winner, Soldo has one of the strongest Cologne squads in recent years at his disposal and must quickly find a way of getting them out of danger. "We have the quality," he told the Express newspaper. "If you go through our whole team right from the back, the quality is there.
"But having quality does not bring results. The team cannot get out of this alone and the coach cannot either. He has got to work together with the team to get us out (of danger)."
Cologne travel to fellow strugglers Bochum on Friday night for a game, which is being billed as Soldo's final chance to turn the corner. Defeat at the Ruhr Stadion would see them drop into the bottom three and Overath's patience may finally run out.
