Toni to sit out Cologne clash

Bayern Munich will be without Italian striker Luca Toni for their Bundesliga clash with Cologne on Saturday, the defending champions have announced.

Toni, last season's top scorer in the Bundesliga, limped out of last Saturday's 2-1 defeat at new league leaders Hertha Berlin and has failed to fully recover from an achilles tendon injury.

With Bayern facing Sporting Lisbon in the next round of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, coach Jurgen Klinsmann has opted to give more time to recover and his place will go to Landon Donovan, on loan from LA Galaxy, or Lukas Podolski.

Bayern are fourth in the Bundesliga, while Cologne are 11th in the table.
