Ibrahimovic: Record dedicated to team

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has dedicated his record-breaking haul of goals to his Paris Saint-Germain team-mates, after the Swedish forward broke a club record going back over a quarter of a century during the capital club's victory over St Etienne at the weekend.

Ibrahimovic took his league goal tally to 35 for the season and was pleased to move past Carlos Bianchi's record made when he was top scorer at the club in the two seasons from 1977-1979.

"This was a very important match for us and we won together, as a team, so it's another step towards our objective," the Sweden international told the club's official website. "We played well and scored two goals. I am very happy to have beaten Carlos Bianchi's record (by scoring 40 goals for Paris in a single season) but I owe it all to the team and I thank them, like I do all the supporters at the Parc des Princes."

His coach Laurent Blanc hailed the French Ligue 1 leaders following a tough week in which they claimed three wins, concluding with Sunday's league victory. PSG restored their eight-point lead with a 2-0 win over the Greens.

Two first-half strikes from the champions' top scorer were enough to secure Blanc's men their seventh straight win and maintained their impressive lead over second-placed Monaco, who got past Lyon 3-2.

Earlier this week, the French giants saw off Bayer Leverkusen with a 6-1 aggregate victory to progress to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, following a 3-0 league win at Bastia last weekend.

"All victories are important. We aim to win every single home match so it's mission accomplished," Blanc told the club's official website. "We had three matches in the last seven days, which is not easy to manage, and we recorded three wins over Bastia, Bayer Leverkusen and now St Etienne, another quality opponent, technically very good and courageous. Winning 2-0 is an excellent thing and a great way to cap off a very good week."

PSG travel to mid-table Lorient in their next match on Friday - the same day they will find out their opponents in the Champions League quarter-finals, with the matches to be played on April 1 and 2.
