Alex focused on PSG result for title bid

Paris Saint-Germain defender Alex is ignoring other matches this weekend and is focusing on the task at hand, despite the fact his side can be crowned Ligue 1 champions if results go their way.

Carlo Ancelotti's men welcome mid-table Valenciennes to the Parc des Princes on Sunday knowing they can wrap up the league title if they better second-placed Marseille's result against Bastia 24 hours earlier, while even if both sides win, the Parisians are still in the driving seat due to their vastly superior goal difference.

Alex is aware it will be impossible to ignore Marseille during the build up to this weekend's fixtures, but he is solely concentrating on the three points on offer against Valenciennes. "Everyone will be looking out for Marseille's result on Saturday, of course," Alex told PSG TV. "But, for us, it doesn't really matter. We just need to get the job done, win on Sunday and be champions.

"There will still be three games left after that so we need to make sure our bodies and minds are prepared for all four remaining games. This is the most important game of the season. All the players have been building up to it all week. Everyone is 100 per cent ready because we will need to put in a top performance on Sunday. We know Valenciennes and we have to respect them as a team, but we are at home and we need the three points."

With PSG on a five-match winning run, Marseille coach Elie Baup cannot foresee a drastic set of circumstances that would enable his side to overhaul the league leaders. "With PSG nine points ahead of second place and the winning streak in which they are on now, the title is theirs. We do not know if it will be [over the weekend] or the next but there is no question, the title is for them," Baup told reporters at a press conference today.
