Toulouse climbed above Rennes into fifth place in Ligue 1 after beating their Brittany rivals 1-0 at home on Sunday.
Etienne Didot's deflected free-kick gave the hosts a 26th-minute lead, but they had to defend their lead with ten men for over half an hour after Antoine Devaux was sent off for a shin-high foul on Kevin Theophile-Catherine.
Victory took Alain Casanova's team level on points with fourth-placed Lille, who play later on today against Valenciennes, while Rennes slipped one place to sixth, having also been eliminated from the Coupe de la Ligue by Ligue 2 side Le Mans in midweek.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Sochaux earned a 1-1 draw at Nice thanks to a 35th-minute penalty by Algerian international midfielder Ryad Boudebouz.
Nice had taken the lead through Eric Mouloungui and dominated the second half despite being reduced to ten men when David Hellebuyck was shown a straight red card for treading on Sochaux centre-back Damien Perquis.
