Rennes continue to lead the way in Ligue 1 despite being held to a goalless draw by Lens.
With second-placed St Etienne losing 2-1 at Nice, the point was enough for unbeaten Rennes to extend their lead at the head of the standings. Ten-man St Etienne were kept off the top as they surrendered a lead to lose at Nice.
The door was open for St Etienne after Rennes' stalemate but, despite taking an 11th-minute lead through Dmitri Payet's penalty, they came away empty-handed thanks to a second-half fightback from Nice after the sending off of Gonzalo Bergessio.
Anthony Mounier volleyed Nice level two minutes after the restart and Chaouki Ben Saada's deflected shot in the 67th minute proved to be the winner.
Rennes' draw with relegation-battling Lens was compounded by the late sending-off of substitute Tongo Hamed Doumbia. It was a game of few chances but Lens could claim to have the bulk of them, although neither side really came close to scoring.
Lyon made it back-to-back wins after seeing off Lille 3-1 in an entertaining encounter at Stade de Gerland. Lisandro Lopez fired the hosts in front after two minutes before Yoann Gourcuff doubled the lead before the break.
Moussa Sow pulled one back on 52 minutes for Lille but Lisandro put the game beyond the visitors with his second from the penalty spot after 56 minutes. Lyon played the last 20 minutes with ten men following the dismissal of Jeremy Pied.
Lorient picked up three welcome points as they came from behind to beat Valenciennes 2-1 at the Stade Moustoir. Gael Danic stunned the hosts with a fine strike after four minutes, but it was all square nine minutes later thanks to Kevin Gameiro's penalty. Sigamary Diarra completed the the turnaround after 25 minutes.
