Sunderland announced the signing of Italian goalkeeper Vito Mannone from Premier League rivals Arsenal on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old, a former Italy U-21 international, has signed a two-year contract at the Stadium of Light and cost Sunderland an undisclosed transfer fee reported to be around £2m ($3.1m USD, €2.4m).

Sunderland sold first-choice goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to Liverpool last month and Mannone is expected to provide cover for Republic of Ireland international Keiren Westwood.

Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio has already been busy in the transfer window, with Valentin Roberge, Modibo Diakite, Cabral, David Moberg Karlsson and Duncan Watmore having all joined the club since the end of the 2012/13 Premier League season.
