Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Nelsen has signed a new contract which will keep him at Ewood Park for two more years.

Nelsen, who captained New Zealand the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa, has signed a one-year extension to his existing deal, which had been due to run out in 2012.

The 33-year-old has made more than 200 appearances for Rovers since joining from Major League Soccer outfit DC United in 2005.

His heroics in the World Cup last year, where the Kiwis finished the tournament unbeaten, earned him a prestigious New Zealand Order of Merit award in New Year's Honours.
