Alberto Gilardino scored his first goal in the Chinese Super League but could not prevent his new club Guangzhou Evergrande from suffering a 2-1 defeat at Changchun Yatai.

The 32-year-old Italy international swapped Serie A for Marcello Lippi's Chinese champions last month and on Sunday he managed to open his account for the league leaders, with his 32nd-minute strike cancelling out Eninho's third-minute effort.

But it would not be a day to remember for Gilardino, nor for the Southern China Tigers, as Yatai striker Szabolcs Huszti fired an 81st-minute winner to send Guangzhou to only their third defeat of the season.

Shanghai SIPG climbed to third in the table on Sunday by beating Hangzhou Greentown 2-1 in Xuhui thanks to goals from Lei Wu and Tobias Hysen. Anselmo Ramon notched for tenth-placed Hangzhou.

Elsewhere, Dabao Yu and Xiyang Huang exchanged goals as Dalian Aerbin drew 1-1 with Henan Jianye, Peter Utaka fired Shanghai Shenxin to a 1-0 victory at Guangzhou R&F and, over at the Guiyang Olympic Sports Center, Hai Yu hit the goal that ensured Guizhou Renhe ran out 1-0 winners against Liaoning.
