Early leaders Cruzeiro suffered their second defeat in this season's Brazilian Campeonato as Corinthians moved to just a point behind the pace-setters. Paolo Guerrero's 68th-minute goal was enough for Corinthians to win 1-0 and close the gap, to leave the upper reaches of the table looking crowded after eight games.

Fluminense were unable to take over top spot as they went down 2-0 away to Atletico Mineiro, whose goals came from Jesus Datolo in the 53rd minute and Diego Tardelli in the 65th. Fluminense substitute Michael was then sent off having been on the field just two minutes.

Internacional joined the scrum a point behind the leaders with a 2-0 win over Chapecoense as Wellington Paulista scored in each half. Goias are the other team on 15 points after a goalless draw with Vitoria, while seventh-placed Gremio's game against Sport Recife also finished 0-0.

Sao Paulo came from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Atletico Paranaense in a dramatic finish. Bady's opener was cancelled out by a penalty from prolific goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni but substitute Cleo's last-minute goal appeared to have clinched victory for Atletico - only for Luis Fabiano to level matters once more in injury time.

Fabio Ferreira's goal earned Criciuma a 1-0 win over Coritiba while Botafogo won 2-0 at Palmeiras, Mario Bolatti and Pablo Zeballos with the goals in the second half.
