Palmeiras put the heat on at the top of the Brazilian Serie A as they moved to within a point of the top two with a 1-0 victory over Figueirense. Jose Henrique's first-half goal settled the contest, leaving their struggling opponents second-bottom with just three points from six matches.

Atletico Mineiro held on to edge a 3-2 victory at home to Vitoria after losing a 3-0 lead in the second half to move up to seventh. Jesus Datolo put Mineiro ahead after 12 minutes before an own goal by Rafael Berger doubled their tally four minutes later and Araujo Rever struck just after the hour mark to make it three.

Vitoria struck back with goals from second-half substitutes Telmario Dinei and Barbosa Willie but Mineiro held on for the points. Also on Thursday night, Goias and Santos shared a 2-2 result.

Silva Geuvanio put Santos ahead early on and then Cardozo Alex Alves levelled, but Santos Cicero's penalty five minutes before the break saw Santos take the lead for the second time before Nascimento Erik Lima's goal deep into the second half clinched a point for Goias.
