Japanese star Shinji Ono was given an emotional farewell as Western Sydney Wanderers drew 1-1 with Brisbane Roar in Australia's A-League on Saturday. It was 34-year-old Ono's last home game of the regular A-League season before the former international playmaker returns to Japan to join Consadole Sapporo.
The Wanderers staged a tribute to the respected Japanese player, capped over 50 times for his country, with fireworks in the 21st minute and the 15,000-plus crowd unleashing confetti into the air and sporting Ono masks in honour of his No21 jersey.
The draw ensured the race for second place in the A-League table will go down to the final round next week with the Wanderers to battle it out with Central Coast Mariners for the runners-up position and with it, the opportunity of missing the opening week of the play-offs.
Liam Miller put the Roar in front in the opening half with striker Tomi Juric levelling in the second half.
