Jeronimo scored twice as Adelaide United climbed to third in the A-League standings with a 5-1 hammering of Wellington Phoenix.

The two sides were separated by just a single point going into the contest, but they looked worlds apart on the pitch from the moment Jeronimo opened the scoring for United in the 23rd minute.

Olivare Cirio doubled the lead just before the half-hour and Fabio Ferreira added a third 14 minutes after the break.

Jeronimo had his second three minutes later and, although Kenny Cunningham pulled a goal back for the visitors midway through the second half, the Phoenix had Manny Muscat dismissed soon after and then Awer Mabil completed the rout in stoppage time.
