Teenage substitute Kwame Yeboah fired Brisbane Roar to the top of Australia's A-League with a stunning late winner at defending champions Central Coast Mariners today.

The 19-year-old Yeboah smashed an unstoppable shot past goalkeeper Liam Reddy, who had denied the Roar with a string of fine saves. Yeboah's 89th-minute strike pushed the two-time champions Brisbane to the top of the standings by a point from Western Sydney Wanderers.

Italian superstar Alessandro Del Piero celebrated his 39th birthday with the winning penalty in a 3-2 win for ten-man Sydney FC over Melbourne Victory yesterday.

Del Piero converted the spot kick just before half-time to settle an eventful game where all five goals were scored in the first half to end a run of three straight A-League defeats for the Sky Blues. Sydney lost defender Marc Warren to a straight red card after tugging back Connor Pain when he was through on goal.

The Wanderers downed Melbourne Heart 1-0 with the winning goal coming from defender Shannon Cole early in Friday's match in Melbourne.

Wellington Phoenix are still searching for a first win of the season as they battled to a 1-1 draw with Perth Glory in Christchurch. Three draws and two losses from five matches leave the Phoenix near the bottom of the A-League table despite playing some of their best football in recent seasons.

Dutchman Kew Jaliens and Adam Taggart scored as Newcastle Jets upset Adelaide United 2-1 for their first victory of the season. The Jets survived a late Reds rally after Fabio Ferreira netted in the 71st minute.
