River Plate cruise to crown

River Plate clinched the Argentinian Torneo Final crown in style with a 5-0 win at home to Quilmes on Sunday.

River went into the match two points clear at the top and ensured there would be no final-day dramas with a thumping win.

Fernando Cavenaghi opening the scoring after 10 minutes and added the fourth after 71, following goals from Gabriel Mercado (25) and Cristian Ledesma (63). Teofilo Gutierrez completed the rout in the 89th minute.

Estudiantes, who were River's closest challengers, had two players sent off as they lost 2-1 at Tigre. Guido Carrillo put Estudiantes ahead after 24 minutes, but Kevin Itabel levelled just before the break and Erik Godoy completed the turnaround just after it. It then all went front for the visitors who lost Franco Jara and Jonathan Schunke to red cards in the 54th and 79th minute respectively.

Boca Juniors finished in second thanks to a 1-0 win at Gimnasia La Plata. Luciano Acosta scored the only goal after 13 minutes and Gimnasia finished the match with 10 men following Ignacio Lachalde's 90th-minute dismissal.

Lucas Albertengo scored a 90th-minute winner as Atletico Rafaela came from behind to beat Arsenal Sarandi 2-1. Nicolas Aguirre put hosts Arsenal ahead after 14 minutes, but Juan Eluchans levelled four minutes into the second half.

Colon Santa Fe also fought back to win at the death, Lucas Alario's goal giving them a 2-1 win at home to Olimpo. Dario Gandin had cancelled out Matias Sarulyte's second-half opener.

Elsewhere, Rosario Central beat Argentinos Juniors 3-2 and Godoy Cruz were 2-1 winners at home to Racing Club.
